Hello everyone and welcome back to My Blurred World.
I hope you’re all doing really well.
Today’s post is another make-up related post and I’m going to be talking you through all my favourite products from the drugstore/high street. I believe that these products would be perfect for anyone starting out in make-up, you might find a few of these products a tad expensive for someone who is just starting out but these are just the products that I would recommend, I’m sure you’d be able to find cheaper alternatives if you’re not willing to pay £10 for a foundation lets say.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while there is a very high chance that you will have heard me talk about these products numerous times before but there are a few new favourites of mine in this post so its definitely worth sticking around and continue reading.
Apologies for the very long intro, I’ll stop rambling now and get on to talking about my drugstore starter kit picks. Enjoy!
For primer I have one favourite which is the Soap&Glory One heck of a blot primer. This might be at the higher end of the drugstore price range when it comes to primers as it costs £10 but I definitely think it’s worth it. It keeps my make-up in place all day and it also gives a smooth feeling to my skin. I would highly recommend this product.
Next up is foundation – my first favourite is one I’ve used for a couple of years now and it is of course the Bourjois healthy mix foundation. This has been a firm favourite amongst beauty bloggers and youtubers for many years now but it’s definitely worth the hype. It provides the skin with a nice healthy glow by also providing medium buildable coverage. It’s infused with many fruit extracts which are very beneficial for your skin. I haven’t been using it as much lately as I’ve been trying to test out different products but this foundation will always be a favourite of mine.
Another one of my favourite drugstore foundations is the L’oreal infallible 24 hour matte foundation. This is my current favourite as you will know if you read my recent post which was called ‘These are a few of my favourite things‘. This is a medium to full coverage foundation in my opinion and instantly perfects the skin. I wouldn’t recommend this foundation for those who have dry skin as it is matte and can tend to cling to any dry patches, something to bare in mind. But overall I love this foundation, I have mine in the lightest shade which is called ‘porcelain’ and I find that this is quite a good match for my skin as we enter the winter months.
This product isn’t sold in a high street make-up store such as Boots and Superdrug so it might not be classed as ‘drugstore’ in some people’s eyes but this is the only concealer that I’ve found at drugstore price that I really like. I’ve tried many concealers from the drugstore that beauty bloggers and youtubers constantly talk about in their videos and blog posts but I personally just haven’t found any of the concealers recommended to suit me. They either don’t have enough coverage or they don’t match my skin tone and tend to oxidize on me which is never a good look. But I recently came across this cream concealer from KIKO. This is called the ‘full coverage concealer’ so I was expecting great things from this product. So far I haven’t been disappointed. It provides a great coverage which is essential for me as I do suffer with really bad blemishes often. It’s nice and creamy and blends really nicely. So although it might not be sold in drugstores I definitely recommend checking out KIKO and giving this product a try.
For powder my absolute favourite is the Soap&Glory one heck of a blot powder. This as you might have guessed is from the same range as the primer I mentioned previously. This in combination with the primer is great at keeping my skin matte, I don’t apply this when I first apply my make-up as I find that can be a bit heavy but as my skin gets a little bit more oily during the day I always whip this powder out of my bag and it always solves the problem. This is a transparent powder which is perfect for me as I know it won’t interfere with the colour of my foundation.
If you’re looking for cheaper alternatives to this powder I would also recommend the Rimmel stay matte (which I don’t use anymore as it includes parabens but it’s really good if you don’t mind that) and I would also recommend the Maybelline fit me powder.
Moving on to a bit of colour, I have two blushes to recommend to you all, the first one being the Max Factor creme puff blush. I only have one shade of this range but I really like it and the other shades look beautiful too. The shade I have is called ‘nude mauve’ which is a beautiful dusty kind of pink shade. It doesn’t have much pigmentation but I like that as I know I won’t apply too much, this is important for me as a visually impaired person as I don’t want to go out looking like a clown. Again these are not the cheapest blushes available in the drugstore but they are definitely worth it in my opinion.
If you are after a little bit more pigmentation then you might like the KIKO Milano shade infusion blush. This is a beautiful three toned blush which ranges from a pretty pale pink to a more intense/darker pink. This particular one is in the shade 04. The combination of the three colours is beautiful and I love it.
There is only one bronzer I’ve ever tried from the drugstore and although I have nothing to compare it to, I know that this is a fantastic product. It’s another product by Soap&Glory, if you are familiar with the world of blogging and YouTube I’m sure you will have heard about this product more than once as it’s very popular. It is of course the famous ‘solar powder’. This is a two toned bronzer and it’s absolutely beautiful. It provides the skin with a nice amount of warmth, it’s not orange or muddy so I think it’s perfect for anyone starting out in make-up.
Moving on to eyes, I have one palette that I would recommend from the drugstore, this one being the Soap&Glory ‘the perfect ten’ eyeshadow palette. I’m aware that I’m including a lot of S&G products in this post but that’s because I really like their cosmetics range. I bought this palette last autumn/winter as it was part of their christmas gift range, it’s on sale again this year (it might be a permanent launch this time but I’m not sure so don’t quote me on this). This is a beautiful palette with ten gorgeous shades. They are all very neutral and wearable and they have a nice amount of pigmentation. Definitely worth investing in as I’m pretty sure they only cost around the £10 mark which is amazing for such an amazing quality eyeshadow palette.
If you’re after a stick eyeshadow to add to your collection then I would highly recommend the KIKO long-lasting eyeshadow stick in the shade 07. This is a beautiful gold shimmery eyeshadow shade. It’s quick and easy to apply if you are in a rush, it glides onto my eyes beautifully and blends really well. The colour is very highly pigmented, I just love this product.
Eyeliner is not something I’ve mastered, I find it to be the most difficult thing to apply especially as I’m visually impaired. But there are two eyeliners from the drugstore that I find are quite easy to apply. They are both liquid eyeliners in felt tip format if you will. The first one is yet another Soap&Glory product and it is the supercat eyeliner. The second is the L’oreal super liner. Out of the two I would have to say that I prefer the L’oreal one as I find it is a little bit easier to apply and it also doesn’t feel as thick on my eye if that makes sense. I would recommend you check out both though as they are both very good.
Now I am very lucky to have very long natural eyelashes so if I were to wear mascara it would most probably go all over my glasses so i tend to steer clear of using it. I know this might sound odd to some of you as mascara can be known for finishing off a look but again I don’t find the need to use it and I don’t neccessarily want my glasses to turn black. However I asked my mother what mascara she would recommend from the drugstore and she said that she loves the Max Factor false lash effect mascara. She said that it gives her lashes nice volume by also providing the length she desires. Definitely worth checking this product out.
I don’t find the need to fill in my eyebrows so the only product I use for them is brow gel. My favourite is the Maybelline brow drama in ‘transparent’. It helps to keep my brows in place all day and just gives them a nicer looking shape. I don’t think there is a need to go all out with eyebrows when you first start out with make-up, eyebrow gels come in different shades so if you feel like you need a bit more colour in your brows then an eyebrow gel might be the perfect beginner product.
In terms of lip balm I absolutely love the eos lip balms. They are really moisturizing and last quite a long time. They also come in different scents/flavours, two of my favourites are ‘sweet mint’ and ‘strawberry sorbet’.
In terms of lipstick I would recommend the Max Factor colour elixir lipsticks. They cost £7.99 each and the selection of colours is beautiful. I have two shades from the collection and I love them both, the first shade as you see in the first of the two above photos is called ‘Rosewood’ which is a beautiful dark nude shade, perfect for the autumn/winter months. And the second shade shown in the second photo is called ‘English Rose’ which is a beautiful dark dusty pink shade. I find that these last quite a long time on my lips and don’t transfer onto my teeth. The gold packaging is also gorgeous.
The last category I have to share with you is make-up brushes.
My favourite make-up brush brand is Real Techniques. Their make-up application tools are absolutely incredible and they are very high quality. They are definitely worth the price tag, and they are definitely worth checking out if you are a starter in using make-up or if you are just on the hunt for some new make-up brushes. My personal favourite item from them at the moment is the miracle complexion sponge which is what I use to apply foundation and concealer. I find that it blends the products seamlessly and makes everything look a little bit more flawless and perfected.
Well that concludes my post for today, I apologise that it was very long but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. Let me know what your favourite drugstore beauty products are as I am always on the hunt to try new things and I would love to hear from you.
I hope you all have an amazing day/evening.
Thank you so much for reading, be sure to join me next time in My Blurred World.
